Nothing is logged to /var/log/secure by external login attempts. The
only entries in this file are for outbound scp sessions originated from
the pod.

I have attached a copy of /etc/ssh/sshd_config. Except for the last line
I added trying to expressly "AllowUser   doc", the sshd_config files on
the source (lion) and the refusing destination (pod) are identical. I
can ssh into lion with no trouble at all.
