PalmOS was designed for handhelds and it just works best that way.
I still haven't seen Linux or PocketPC come close to functionality.
And let's face it, PalmOS connector support is pretty universal.
That's why I carry a Treo 600 series, just like I did a Kyocera
SmartPhone 7135 and 6035 before that (since 2001).
