Hello All, I have an older IBM Thinkpad that will not allow me to boot
from a CD (really, no bios settings or Smart Boot Manager will make it). I have
a small Win 98 install on it and Zipslack as well. I can boot from floppies but
must reboot the system if I wish to switch to CD. I also presently have no
network access with the unit. It is also pretty old (133 mhz with 64 meg ram)
and only has about 1.5 gig left for linux partitions. So what distro can I use? It must be entirely contained on
disks, if it requires a floppy boot, it has to create a bootable partition
before it needs the source files from a CD. I think it would be easiest if the
installation could be started in windows (like most windows installations) and
just require the swapping of CDs. The distro must also allow me to minimize
what is installed on it (no GUI for example). I just started school at SIU Law and haven’t been able
to make meetings for the last few months but might be able to meet this next
meeting. Any suggestions or clarification questions would be great. I have used
Gentoo for a while now but am still pretty novice at everything. Prost! Aaron Call |
