AFAIK, people using Red Hat have it pretty easy.  You should be able
to drop a 2.4 kernel on RH7 without any trouble.  All you really need
to upgrade for 6.2 is modutils (IIRC), which you can get from

    ftp://ftp.silug.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/modutils/

(There are rpms there too, BTW.)

I've got one box running (essentially) Red Hat 6.0 upgraded to
2.4.0-prerelease.  It wasn't very painful.  Just read
Documentation/Changes as usual.
