Just one suggestion... If you want to use a Linux box to share a
DSL/cable/dial-up connection, I *strongly* suggest setting up a box
for *only* that purpose. A high-end 386 (if there is such a thing) or
low-end 486 should do the job just fine. Set up something like that
with no services running (except maybe ssh listening to the internal
interface), and you should never need to worry about someone breaking
into your systems.
Then you can set up boxes to play with without worrying that *maybe*
you left some piece of software incorrectly configured, or forgot to
install an update...
