Re: ZDNet Article
A question from a newbie... (Actually, a cry for help...)
I have just installed Red Hat Linux 5.0 on my system. My video
card is Matrox Millennium, I have 4 MB of video memory, and my
monitor is DELL VS17 (UltraScan 17TX). I ran Xconfigurator and
all semmed to go well. However, I am stuck at resolution 1024
x 768 w/ true color. I would like to run 16 bit color
w/ resolution 1280 x 1024. I know that my monitor supports
this resolution. This is a dual boot machine w/ Win NT and
that's the resolution I use w/ Win NT. However, Linux does
not seem to accept it. I looked at the file /usr/X11R6/lib/
doc/Monitor and it lists my monitor (DELL VS17) but does not
list 1280 x 1024 as a possible resolution (it lists Mode
"1024x768"). I have tried to specify this resolution w/
Xconfigurator but after that X would not start. Any thoughts,
suggestions or hints? Thanks.
