I run both but highly prefer OpenWRT to DD-WRT. I looked into dual
band routers not too long ago and found this list of supported
hardware:

The Netgear WNDR3700 seems to have the best support, but not sure if
it is still easy to find. There is a successor WNDR3800 but the
documentation is less sparse on that.
