Re: scientific linux

I'm not sure how you are downloading, but there are 2 options to download large files from the SL project.

1) My preference: use bit torrent.
2) use wget.  by default it will retry a file 20 times if it encounters error during download. (it even has a "-c" option to pickup downloading a file fragment you have that was downloaded outside of wget http://www.gnu.org/software/wget/manual/html_node/Download-Options.html

Getting the CD image is still a viable option with either of the above, to help ensure you do get the file.

4.1G? You must be trying to download the install DVD.  Why not install the Live CD instead?  If you go that route, you're looking at 700MB or less to download.  It won't have as much software installed right off the bat, but you can easily install it later through yum.
