I just tried those notes using the 2.6 kernel and they seem to work 
just fine, too.

# uname -va
Linux Knoppix 2.6.7 #2 SMP Wed Jul 28 04:25:36 CEST 2004 i686 GNU/Linux

# df -Hl /mnt/lb.raid5/
Filesystem             Size   Used  Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/md0                21M   1.1M    19M   6% /mnt/lb.raid5
