mental note: i hate yum (was Apt v. Yum)

ok so here i am with a box that suddenly fails to resolve domain names
(because of me mucking around with the iptables of both it and the box
acting as the firewall)

i hadnt noticed that yum hadnt finished with an update yet (which it
should have last night, i can probably thank resnet for that one) and
now it is stuck endlessly trying to resolve domain names so it can
continue and it refuses to quit with a ctrl+c nor figure out that it
cannot resolve names. apparently it is going to exhaust its list of
mirrors for EACH file it wants to download rather than remember it was
having a problem resolving a specific mirror.

apt quits when you ctrl+c, why doesnt yum?

apt is superior in everyway except gracefully handling 64vs32bit lib
co install (and i am sure that situation will either be resolved or
has been already).
