IANACVSU (i am not a cvs user *grin*) but i do know that quite a few
ppl i talk to online who are like subversion better than cvs

i dont think there is more than 1 cvs daemon, although there is
definately more than one VCS (version control system)

if you are using fedora you should be able to install subversion and
cvs both via apt/yum
