I have had this happen before as well.  Then I called SBC and found out 
that their CO with a DSLAM was about 80 cable feet from where I was.  
*sigh*  I hated living at that place, on the line of everything.  Pizza 
places wouldn't deliver, "sorry, you aren't in our coverage area."  "I CAN 
SEE YOUR FREAKING STORE FROM MY WINDOW, FINE I WILL WALK OVER THERE ARE 
GET IT."  ARGH

On a lighter note, the wife and I are finalizing on a house right now.  
High speed access was one of the requirements for the area.  :D
