LAN Administrators are assigned to the technical support team.  LAN
Administrators are responsible for the technical
administration of the LAN.  

*They manage the day-to-day activities of the system and are responsible for
all applications present on the system.   
*They ensure servers, workstations peripherals; communication devices and
software are on-line and available to support the logistics customers. 
*They establish contingency procedures, such as manual backup, reallocation
of resources, and sharing assets, for system critical to mission
accomplishment.  
**Plan for short-term loss of system hardware and software availability.   
**Assist in the development of system backup and recovery procedures.   
**Execute tape backups on all assigned systems at specified times, in
accordance with established procedures to prevent potential data loss from
malfunctions and preserve database integrity.
**Maintain a current tape library, locating tapes in off-site storage and
main tape library, and prepares new tapes for the library.  
**Restore files and databases when requested.  
**Ensure all tapes are labeled properly by filling out and affixing labels to
them, making sure the label information is accurate, sufficient, and legible.
 
***This label information shall be verified every time the tape is used.  
***Retrieve or store tapes making sure they are properly stored in the
library when not in use.  
***Ensure backup media, located at offsite storage location, is rotated
monthly. 

LAN Administrators will adhere to Air Force and HQ AMC regulations concerning
Computer Operations and computer security.

*Comply with and manage the security plan for each respective location, in
accordance with governing directives.  
*Ensure all Air Force Computer Emergency Response Team (AFCERT) messages are
complied with to meet established suspense's.  
*Report security breaches and distribute security information according to
the AFI 33-202, AMC instructions, and or local guidance. 
**Provide any security breach specifics and corrective actions in the Monthly
Status Report.  

They shall act and perform as system administrator when required.  

*Add new users to the system.
*Assign and maintain user IDs and Passwords and administer user privileges on
the system.  
*Troubleshoot and resolve hardware and software system problems or elevate to
project manager.  
*Provide system configuration and software change reports following changes
or updates.
*Optimize the servers/LAN and its services to better meet the customers
needs, e.g., assigning user profiles, defining printer access, and setting up
user restrictions.  
*With the assistance of the military defines ownership of applications and
determines who has permission to read, write, and execute.  
*Monitor network control activity.  
*Maintain LAN management records, in a format acceptable to the government,
and assists users in using the LAN.  
*Maintain a database on servers, licenses, and software installed on the
servers.  
*Work with each local Network Control Center and organization computer
systems security officers to implement network security policies and
procedures for each military installation.   
*Provide technical guidance and document system administration procedures.  
*Develop software masks for Air Force forms and assist in developing
computer-generated forms.  
*Assist in modifying terminal emulators to tailor function key mappings.  
*Provide on-the-Job orientation to Government personnel as related to system
administration functions.  
*Provide additional administrative services, as directed by the task leader.
 
*Periodically reviews the organization's needs for computer resources.  
*Assist in the installation and integration of GOE/GOTS and COTS into a
common environment.  
*Provide written documentation of all changes.  
*Provide monthly statistic's on server down time.  
*Document recommended actions in a monthly summary report.
