Re: no end in sight

I actually liked novell for a long time (3.x early 4) but 4.2 and 5 were
a disaster IMHO, about the only two things they still have going for
them are NDS and Zen (if you have to deal with winders boxes), this
accounting software that we are using is crap, but I just recently found
that it runs on linux woot! The company that makes it runs all linux
servers for production in house! So I'm looking at swapping out this
novell for a linux box running samba, which at that point would just
leave getting rid of this win2k box and the other novell box, so close
yet so far away

actually i like novell, but i have to admit that given the fact i think
they
are killing themselves off slowly, i would be greatly tempted to use a
linux/unix based solution in future for inhouse

however the customers are handled by linux ;}

The novell server is a dual processor box with dual raid five array's
that are mirrored across, then it also has a dual hot swap power supply,
one supply is plugged into a smart ups 3000 and the other a smart ups
900, it runs the accounting software (explaining the redundancy), what I
wouldn't do to be an all unix/linux shop, this thing will be beeping at
me till tomorrow (the mirrored partitions on this system are not all
synchronized. beep), so can you do software raid of root/boot partitions
yet, I was trying to do that with my web server but ended up just
mirroring the data partitions, downtime is the enemy must attack it with
brute force and planning (do not use ms or novell), just a couple more
thoughts from a tired abused sysadmin (yes I want some cheese with that
whine)
