open source and directory services

im sure by now all of you have heard of
http://www.redhat.com/about/presscenter/2004/press_neighbor.html (well
anyone who reads slashdot on a daily basis anyway).

i, for one, am very excited by this, i see the potential for an end to
end directory based solution to managing/administrating/etc... linux
servers AND desktops. NDS or AD for linux if you will being brought
to you by redhat. i think that based on how they have done in the
past, redhat will open up this technology for the world :)

that being said, i was wondering what everyone's opinions were on
this. do you like the idea of central management of a linux based
network? think this will be a good idea with poor execution?

your thoughts?
