I have been involved in a lot of users groups...

The first, the Southern Illinois Linux Users Group, I started in late 1994 while I was still a student at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. I still maintain the group's web site, mailing lists, etc., all of which I host on one of my servers. Since I'm living in Southern Illinois again, I hope to get more involved with the group in the near future...

The second was the now-dead Evansville Advanced Systems Users Group, which I started in early 1997 while I was living in/near Evansville, Indiana. The interest in the group was pretty horrible. I learned something very important from the attempt though... People really aren't all that interested in computers or technology in general. They're a lot more interested in specific things, like Linux or Perl.

While I was living in Springfield, Illinois, I started another group, the Linux Users of Central Illinois. It's not that far from Fairview Heights to Springfield, so I'm still very involved with that group. Besides...

In October 1998, I decided to do something a little different, and I started the Springfield Perl Mongers, a Perl users group.

Besides the groups that I started, I've also been moderately active with the St. Louis Unix Users Group Linux SIG since it started back in 1995. I host their web site (on the shared SILUG/LUCI/Springfield.pm box) now, so now they're stuck with me. ;-)

When LUCI started, I found out that there had been a Unix users group in Springfield for quite some time... I've been attending their meetings regularly since then. Now that I've moved, I hope I'll still have time to make it there regularly... (The group has no web site, so if you want information about it, let me know, and I'll get you in contact with the appropriate person.)

There's also a very active Perl Mongers group in St. Louis. I try to attend their meetings regularly, which will surely be easier now that I live near St. Louis...
