OT: automated telnetting

I would like to have one program start another program on
another box.  My apparent tools are C++ code and script.

I will supply the IP Address and username and will have
my system prompt me for a password.  Then, I want my system
to automatically telnet to the other system, log on, and
start a program that is already on the other system.

The reason I want to automate this is because I will be
doing it many times.  I'll be doing it on Solaris, now,
but will eventually be doing it on Linux.

Any pointers on a good way to try to do this?
