The wvdial dialer comes with SuSE and from what i can see it also comes with
redhat.  It can be used graphical although i think it's easier to use from
command line.  under red hat the gui interface is called rp3.  i was useing
kppp, but it kept crashing (killing pppd). SuSE told me they only include
kppp because it is part of the k package series, and that it's pretty buggy.
Wvdial is the default dialer in SuSE if you configure useing yast.

p.s. mac ppp used to be really buggy (like it would use the gateway addy as
it's addy and take down our portmaster) and windows used to require
scripting for an automated connection.
