RE: Help me. I've fallen and I can't get up!

My first question is why do you want to use NT as a Proxy server when you
have Linux? But, if that is really what you want to do, here's what I know
(albiet not very much.)

Also, you could use tcpdump on the Linux box to see what traffic is going to
and from the NT Box from any machines that are able to get out to the
Internet.

As far as configuring MS Proxy, you have to configure a SOCKS procy. You
must have NT 4.0 with Service PAck 3 or higher (I'd reccommend 4 or higher),
IIS 4.0, and Proxy 1.0 or 2.0. You must configure the Internal Address
Table, making sure the range of 192.168.0.0 - 198.168.255.255 is in there.
Also, you must check to make sure that under security the default for
"domain filters" is granted and not deined. Then it should all work.

As far as your problems with LILO go. You /boot partition may be beyond the
1024 cylinder mark on your disk. If this is the case, you could
repartition. Or you could consider using loadlin. Also, I've used the NT
bootloader a lot to manage boots between NT, 98, and Linux, so you could try
that too. But the NT bootloader won't work if Lilo won't work.

If you want to use the NT bootloader, use the instructions below, except
replace the
	C:\BOOTSECT.LNX "RedHat linux"
with
	C:\BOOTSECT.LNX = "RedHat linux"

I've found that Lilo configurations tend to get broken by programs such as
ghost. But, you can easily reinstall Lilo and then everything works ok.

Hope this was helpful,

Randy

Is this a little view of the network?

<internal> -- <redhat> -- <nt> -- <internet>

and you are passing packets from internal to the nt but not onto the
internet? also, what is the ip of your internet interface?

i would recommand using the nt bootloader to keep this going or to use
midnight commander.

dd if=/dev/<what ever slice root is on> of=/bootsect.lnx bs=512 count=1

take this file and put it into C:\ now you are going to need to add linux
into the boot.ini file. make the line something like this

C:\BOOTSECT.LNX "RedHat linux"

There might be more in there for options. JUst make it look approx. like
the first line in there. once oyu have that done, you should be ready to
go.
