Where's CMOS?

Greetings,

I intend to install a new hard drive to put Linux on.  The instructions
refer to some CMOS settings.  I have accessed CMOS on other computers, but
it doesn't seem to be on this one.  (A Compaq Presario 5284 less than a
year old running Windows 98.)  I boot it and press escape, space bar, and
enter and it just keeps on going.  There's no mention of CMOS in the user's
manual.  There's no indication of CMOS in the boot screen.  Is CMOS a thing
of the past?  Or is there a trick to get to it that I'm not aware of?
