One software solution is a product called the Dual Disc Mirror or the
Network Disc Mirror.  Both supply the RAID 1 data redundancy you describe.
It is probably less expensive than the hardware.  You can also duplex the
controllers if you want to for additional redundancy.
Are you familiar with them?
