Well, there was a deal where you could get the setup plus modem for $90
till the end of Dec, but they extended it to the end of Jan. Don't know
if they extended it further.
Ok, here's the deal with the ADSL situation in Carbondale.
There are only two providers right now that I know of.
Midwest
Advantages:
cheaper then the other guy
Disadvantages:
Not guaranteed bandwidth (you are put into a pool)
No dedicated IP
I hate calling them because they give you the "If it isn't Windows
or Mac then we don't support it and good luck even if it is our
fault" attitude.
Cecc.net
Advantages:
Guaranteed bandwidth
Dedicated IP/subnet
All around nicer people to deal with
2 hops off a major backbone
Disadvantages:
Cost a little bit more - usually around $20 more than Midwest. I
think it was worth it.
Now the guy who installed the line said a 56K circuit would be cheaper -
and faster but I don't know how true that is.
And right now I pay $150/month for 384K both ways. They have another
package for $120/month that's 256K/64K.
