Thanks.  You're most likely right. I forgot to mark the boot sector active
so I switched over to another vt and set it active (I know!  I know!). 
I'll reload the RPM. Would it kill my system to run DOS's FDISK /MBR first?
 I've heard that'll help if you've FUBAR'd your boot sector.
