As of right now, I'm cautiously optimistic that this is a sign that Microsoft is a completely different company than it was in the Gates/Ballmer days. (The signs have been there for a while now, but this is a big one...)

Nat Friedman as CEO is even more significant, frankly. Microsoft has lately been a lot less keen on mucking around too much with successful businesses, beyond giving them infrastructure and cash flow to be even more profitable and asking more of things like business continuity planning, etc.
Alas, since I’m a Microsoft employee (albeit indirectly through another acquired company) these days, I can’t say much more than that. (: —n |
