New CentOS releases
Uh... There aren't any, and there's no word on what is delaying the
CentOS 5.6 release. At 20:57 tonight (about two hours ago), Alan
Bartlett posted this to the CentOS 5 General Support Forum:
-----------
Yes, slippage has obviously occurred.
I am still awaiting my weekly briefing by Karanbir on the status of
CentOS 5.6. Once I have some information I shall promptly relay it to
everyone, via the relevant announcement thread.
-----------
All CentOS developers are working on getting the 5.6 release out the
door before they start on CentOS 6. Their thought is that they have a
known base of CentOS 5 users to support, and anybody who wants CentOS 6
that badly can always pay Red Hat for RHEL 6.
There's some grumbling that Scientific Linux 6 (also based on RHEL 6)
was released a few days ago. Maybe, and maybe not. I don't know, and
don't really care much about SL. It doesn't matter who's first (or
second, or...). The only thing that really matters is that ALL the
packages in any particular release are done right. For me it's a domino
thing: I can't upgrade to RHEL 6 until CentOS 6 is released with its
compatible {Open|Libre}Office because Red Hat doesn't offer the office
suite with its server variant. Why that's so makes no sense to me, but
hey ... I'm just the customer.
