Depends on how outdated.  A lot of private schools are more than happy
to take *anything* that's still usable.  Linux can help with that -
lots of nice educational stuff, not to mention OpenOffice.  If it's
REALLY outdated, collectors may be interested.  Even seemingly useless
PC gear can be used for LTSP clients or dumb console terminals (I
personally use an Apple IIgs as my main Linux server console).

Software, again, depends.  You'd be surprised what some of the old
CD-based educational stuff can grab online.  Games are always wanted
by somebody (like me).  You just never know what people are looking
for - that disc you have as a coaster may be someone's holy grail!
(Which reminds me - anyone have InfoSelect for DOS?  <GRIN>)
