I have been 'tethering' successfully again with the new Ubuntu to a Verizon MiFi card. The previous verson was screwing up on the wpa and would not auth half of the time.

I'm glad to see how far support for tethering has come in Linux. Today, I activated a plan that included tethering support at Sprint. It used to just work (tethering), but lately they had started blocking it completely. I had it working on my Palm and Windows mobile phones, but my LG Lotus only Anyhoo, I removed my wireless card and plugged in the phone (by USB) under Ubuntu 9.10. It detected the broadband phone, and asked me 2 questions - Country (USA), Provider (Sprint). Afterword, I just clicked the network-manager applet and selected the Sprint connection and "boom" I was on. That's certainly easier than in the past, where I had to edit some PPP config files and manually start and stop the connection.
Funny thing, this laptop also dual-boots with WIndows 7 - some of my classes require Office 2007, plus I do a little Visual Studio stuff. It was actually harder to setup the connection in Windows. I had to get the driver for the "phone-as-modem", and then add a dialup connection. Not too hard, but I just think it is great how easy some of these things have become under Linux.
Why, I remember Slackware and 13 floppies and... whoops, sorry, I'm old.
