al-right ... please humor me. i cannot find the message thread we
discussed for setting two computers up on a network and dumping/
rsyncing files to that computer to prevent a total loss of personal
files ... i'm really trying to do this now since i'm not in college.
i'm having trouble getting the other computer to work due to a crappy
monitor that is hardly legible ... but here is what i have done so far.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
first thing is i have installed FC5 base system with java. no desktop
or graphics. i figure i can tell hosts.allow and hosts.deny what i want
to do and it should work. by the way i'm calling the computer
downstairs LEVEL.ONE . i told level.one that i want hosts.deny to deny:
all:all
i told level.one that i want hosts.allow to allow:
192.168.100.10
192.168.100.11
192.168.100.12
192.168.100.13
i don't know how to call the computer downstairs level.one while setting
it up. it is basically a non-graphical client that i'm putting files
into the /misc/ folder. i'm going to create a sub-folder and give it
chgrp +rwx priviliges since only the network will be able to write to it.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
the other computer is level.two. i did the same thing to the hosts.x
files up here. here is where i am stuck. i do not know what to do
next, or how to access the level.one computer from level.two. i do not
know if i should open a server connection or what.
am i heading in the right direction?
