    okay.  new problem, when i type in 'INIT 3' from the command prompt 
inside linux it basically tries to exit, but then it gets a 'hang' when 
it loads the wine driver.  i'm going to try shutting down the driver and 
then doing init ... i tried shutting down WINE from inside linux first, 
and i did it using the 'services' thing, under applications/system settings.
