Nope. I plugged in an external USB2 drive, mounted it, added/removed a
bunch of files, df seems to work just fine.

# cat /etc/fedora-release
Fedora Core release 3 (Heidelberg)
# mount | grep DATA
/dev/sda1 on /media/DATA type vfat (rw,nosuid,nodev)
# pwd
/media/DATA
# foo () { dd if=/dev/zero of=zeros bs=1MD count=$1 ; sync ; ls -la
--si zeros ;} ; time -p foo 1000
1000+0 records in
1000+0 records out
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 1.0G Dec 15 09:35 zeros*
real 47.26
user 0.00
sys 8.94
# df -H .
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 32G 1.1G 31G 4% /media/DATA

Doesn't seem to be too shabby for write speeds either (1000 MB/47 s ~
20 MB/s ~ 1.2 GB/min ).
