The file size works out to exactly 4825700 blocks transferred.

Have you tried using rsh or SSH instead of NC to send the file over?

Is it an issue of mismatched (or non-optimal) MTUs?

You should be able to use MTUs larger than the 1540 or so for typical defaults.

Is the Linksys injecting additional MTU inefficiency in the link?

Can you look at the packet counters before and after and see how many packets transfer before failure?
