I believe I am using a RH9 kernel.  I've never upgraded/updated it:

# uname -va
Linux foo 2.4.20-18.9smp #1 SMP Thu May 29 06:41:01 EDT 2003 i686 
athlon i386 GNU/Linux

 From googling I've seen a number of suggestions, including "don't worry 
about it" to "upgrade glibc" to "boot with the 'nosysinfo' option".

I'm fine with the "don't worry about it option", if it's true.
