In a way, that is a loaded question.  It's not that *BSD is "superior" 
but rather that is an alternative OpenSource OS.

There is an old saying that goes something like "if you want to know 
what the future of computing looks like, look at today's Mac."  IMHO, 
that still holds true.  And OS X is based on FreeBSD with a healthy mix 
of other OpenSource software.
