Re: Hunting Snood
> Here's my dilema: she wants Snood. Is there a Linux equivalent?
1. Does it run under WINE?
2. If you find setting up and/or using WINE too difficult, have you tried
running it under Codeweavers Crossover Office?
3. If you're looking for a distro that comes *WITH* CW-XO, I suggest Xandros.
They play very nicely with mixed networks and are pretty solid and stable
if you're letting your kid use the computer. (Xandros is Debian "woody" based).
4. There's a LUG discount available to the tune of about 45%. That's basically
the price of the CW-XO - not a bad deal at all.
If you go the WINE route, I highly recommend keeping a Win partition around,
as it provides WINE and/or XO with the best "emulation" DLLs around.
Unfortunately, I can't recommend going completely "Windows-free" because all of
WINE's DLLs just aren't "there" yet, so using your licensed Win DLLs (just not
in the way the manufacturer envisioned) will get you a better user experience.
I'm Windows-free, but that's my choice to not be seduced by the siren song of
proprietary software, at least at the OS level for now. Eventually, I hope to
only use Free Software for the kids' games as well, but you pick your battles,
I suppose.
