i have seen larger novell installations that were working just fine in which
the admins didnt report any real trouble that was netware's fault. i think
novell scaling is an implimentations issue. this isnt the issue at hand
really, im more interested in a replacement that stays within the boundries
of linux/bsd

not my network, just a hypothetical one

im just wanting a single place i can add a user and then that user can use
any machine he/she wants to without me going to each and every machine
adding a user (be it physically going to the machine or ssh-ing). a roaming
profile would be nice but not required.

multicast ghost or the equivalent would be what i would use for replication
of the drives but that wasnt the issue i was really meaning

that would be nice. my personal opinion on the matter is that if you want
more corporate penetration in this day and age you need centralized
management of the entire network (assuming all *nix boxes). adding in some
support for a windows box authing and participating through the replacement
GINA project and then we are talking.

but its just my pipe dream
