no virtual terminals...

redhat 9
2.4.20-18.9 kernel source as a base
patched with ebtables support (latest release, not cvs)

added in ebtables options with make menuconfig
make dep bzImage modules modules_install
made initrd image

copied both to /boot
added entries in grub

boot off of this new custom kernel into run level 3 ... and i dont have any
virtual terminals (im not 100% sure thats what they are called, alt+Fn keys
for new terminals). i checked dmsg but didnt see anything flagging a
blatant error except for some keyboard scancode stuff.

i dont have to have it i suppose, but i dont know where to start looking to
see why i dont anymore. i was just booted up with 2.4.20-8 prior, and it
had them just fine.
