I mean, I like my space just like anyone, but I've yet to see a large _and fast_ (7200rpm) hd on the cheap!? If video editing is an important issue, speed is of the essence. Perhaps even looking at sacrificing another part just to have a good transfer rate? Possibly look at serial ATA? But still, I'd stick with a smaller (or even several smaller) drive that does go faster... maybe and 80G 7200rpm... Just some considerations... :) > ATI AIW video card (8500 Radeon is dual head) > > add your choice of dvd and cdrw and you're prolly around $800 and jammin Something to think about here, I'm in the process of finishing the building of a machine for video editing/DVD authoring all for Linux! He had recently got a new CDRW drive since his old conked out... and then he made the decision to build this box. What we did was ordered a Toshiba DVD-R/RW and it has the capabilities of reading DVDs, burning DVD-Rs, burning DVD-RWs, reading CDs, buring CD-Rs, and buring CD-RWs... So, you may just want to invest into an "all-in-one" toy and be done?! (and yes, it worked in Linux -- we've tested it already!) :) > > my 2 cents (wanna see my boxen based on the above)? Last but not least, since video was mentioned, how do you plan on capturing it? (Kara? Steve? wink, wink! Take over!?) :) -- Travis Owens <openbook@linuxmds.com> Linux MDs
