weird performance....

before i was greping and piping the output to word counting on a 1Gig file... 
on a dual processor... 1.266Ghz zeon... and it only takes 5-10 minutes... now 
i tried doing it on 4 processor (2GHz)... its like taking all day to finish 
this...

4 processor is sitting on a 2.4.18-14smp RH8.0 w/ 22064672 kB memory (swap is 
doubled)

2 processor is sitting on a 2.4.7-10smp RH7.2 w/ 1028400 kB memory (swap is 
doubled)

can someone shed some light on this...
