Updating Mandrake from SILUG mirrors

As some of you who have poked around the massive mirrors Steve and KSPEI
maintain for local users, you might have found the recent addition of
Mandrake mirrors.

If you're using MDK (in my examples, I'm using 9.1), adding these mirrors
is a simple deal. You can add them using the urpmi GUI, but it doesn't
understand rsync URLs. You can of course use the equivalent HTTP URLs to
the mirrors.

For those that don't use Mandrake, urpmi is Mandrake's equivalent to apt4rpm's
apt-get, except that it gets installed as a part of Mandrake, instead of
a very useful bolt-on (Obviously RH would prefer you pay for their RH Networks
up2date service). The commands below are the Mandrake equivalent to putting
Steve/KSPEI/SILUG/LUCI/STLLUG's mirror for RH into your apt sources.list.

As root, from the command line, enter the following commands:

For the 9.1 Main distribution packages:

  urpmi.addmedia silug.main \
   rsync://ftp.silug.org/mandrake/dist/9.1/i586/Mandrake/RPMS \
   with ../base/hdlist.cz

For the 9.1 Contributed packages:

  urpmi.addmedia silug.contrib \
   rsync://ftp.silug.org/mandrake/dist/9.1/i586/Mandrake/RPMS2 \
   with ../base/hdlist2.cz

For the 9.1 Security updates:

  urpmi.addmedia silug.updates \
   rsync://ftp.silug.org/mandrake/dist/updates/9.1/RPMS \
   with ../base/hdlist.cz

And for the Cooker Main packages, enter:

  urpmi.addmedia silug.Cooker.main \
   rsync://ftp.silug.org/mandrake/devel/cooker/i586/Mandrake/RPMS \
   with ../base/hdlist.cz

And for the Cooker Contributed packages, enter:

  urpmi.addmedia silug.Cooker.contrib \
   rsync://ftp.silug.org/mandrake/devel/cooker/i586/Mandrake/RPMS2 \
   with ../base/hdlist2.cz

You could also use wuarchive.wustl.edu and use HTTP with the appropriate
locations as well for 9.0. They have not updated the archive with 9.1 (yet).
There are also several other mirrors in the neighborhood, including the
Univ. of Missouri at Rolla (http://ftp.umr.edu/pub/linux/mandrake/Mandrake/
and they also serve rsync). Googling for hdlist.cz turns up a few more.

As always, be gentle with the bandwidth, and if you use the SILUG mirrors,
by all means use KSPEI as a vendor or just send them a couple of bucks
every now and then to help them keep the mirrors connected.
