Thanks to both of you but...............
/etc/modules.conf
alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc
alias eth0 8139too
alias usb-controller usb-uhci
#sound portion
options sound dmsbuf=1
alias synth0 op13
options op13 io=0x388
options cs4232 io=0x530 irq=5 dma=1 dma2=0 mpuio=0x330 mpuirq=9
alias sound-slot-0 cs4232
plus some other stuff related to the sound.
I added /etc/rc.d/init.d/modules.init
# module init
/sbin/kerneld
/sbin/mount -a
I followed the redhat manual and linked the proper files to run the
module auto-loader and rebooted. Didn't help. I'm thinking a wipe and
clean install of phoebe is what's needed. I hate to do the MS thing when
I'm having so much fun trying to figure this out. (sarcasm)
This was and upgrade of a screwed up 8.0
