Linux news
A couple of items of interest for most of you...
First, Red Hat has been busy releasing updates lately. A couple of
big ones are mozilla (which also affects galeon and various other
things) and the kernel. If you are using apt to do updates, you'll
need to do the kernel update "by hand" with "apt-get install
kernel\#2.4.18-17.7.x" or whatever is appropriate for your system.
(Don't forget to edit grub.conf or lilo.conf and make that kernel the
default, and run lilo if you still use it.) The mozilla updates need to
be installed on every version of Red Hat that has shipped mozilla, in
other words 7.1-8.0 (as I recall). The kernel updates need to be
installed on *every* version of Red Hat, including 8.0. (Of course,
Red Hat doesn't provide kernels for anything older than 6.2.)
OK, that was a long paragraph.
Second, Linus just released 2.5.44. In theory, the feature freeze on
2.5.x happens in two weeks. At this point, I'm sort of vaguely
tempted to try 2.5 on a box somewhere. Anyone feeling especially
brave is welcome to give it a try and let us all know how it goes. :-)
This one probably isn't terribly interesting to most of you, but I
did want to mention it...
There's a Linux show in Toledo, OH in a couple of weeks.
Unfortunately, it's in the middle of the week, so I don't expect it to
be very convenient for most of you.

It is cheap though... ($125 for the conference + exhibits or $25 for
just the exhibits.)
There's probably more I'm forgetting, but I guess I'll follow up to
this if I think of anything...
