I have actually never been to a SILUG meeting, so I can't speak for that, but
a lot of members from SILUG also go to the SLUUG meeting, which I have
attended (not regularly.)

In my opinion, it's mostly a get-together with a lot of technical talk. So if
you're coming to talk about the technicalities of Linux (or whatever OS you
use, be it BSD, AIX, et cetera) or if you're just wanting to socialize with
someone who has some intelligence, I've found that it's a great place.

I started using Linux since I was in the 6th grade. I got serious in the 7th
grade, and then started coming to meetings in the 8th grade. There are people
of a variety of ages (though I have yet to find more than one high school
student in the whole St. Louis area who has an interest in Linux like me, and
he doesn't come to meetings.) It's fun, and a lot of meetings (like MOSLUG,
which I attend regularly) are located at restaurants, so I usually catch
something to eat while I'm there, too. Also, the people that went to CWE-LUG
used to get together for a pre-meeting lunch, which is the more social event
before the actual gathering.

Computers are brought, along with hubs and cool new toys. People are
introduced to new things, information is passed along, and hatred towards
Microsoft seems to be prevalent, too. Overall, LUGs are very interesting, and
when I turn 16 and can drive, I will be attending many more (other than
MOSLUG and CWE-LUG.)
