weird messages when trying to use mount

Okay, when I try to mount my Windows drive, I get this:

mount: /dev/hda1 has wrong major or minor number

I haven't seen this one before. I will tell you that I just recompiled
kernel, but did not change versions.

Any ideas?

I was walkin' down the street,
when I thought I heard this voice say,
"Say, ain't we walkin' down the same street,
together on the very same day",
And I said,
"Hey senorita, that's astute", I said,
"Why don't we get together and call ourselves an institute"
