I found switchdesk it's just that I obviously didn't install any other
desktops besides twm and sawfish/gnome, I didn't mean to make it sound
like I had to reinstall it's just that I would like to try finer grain
control over the install this time around, I really do admire the idiot
proof ease of this install and the utilities have certainly improved
since rh5.2, I just let it do it's thing to see where it was going to
go, smooth as silk not to my tastes that's all, btw is there an rpm
utility to select files from the distro to install (besides mounting the
cd and going through the dir doing a -q -p to every package to see what
it is), uhh something like yast's package management function C={;-{>}

no I don't just reload my os when something doesn't look the way I like
it, unless of coarse its windows

So just run switchdesk.  You don't have to reload everything to change
your desktop.
