Perhaps xdm wants to nslookup the ip address so that it can print "Welcome to <hostname> at the top of the screen". Make sure there is an entry for localhost in /etc/hosts. Make sure to put in an entry for your hostname in there pointing to 127.0.0.1 as well. -----Original Message----- From: John Bell [mailto:jwbell@charter.net] Sent: Sunday, February 17, 2002 2:04 PM To: silug-discuss@silug.org Subject: RH 7.2 and xdm Has anyone had trouble with xdm running properly on RH 7.2 when using DHCP. When the system boots a gui login screen never appears. If I statically assign the address and hostname everything works fine. Could somebody offer an explanation for this?
