I could easily get line of sight if I used external antennas ... I think 
before I go to that expense/trouble I'll try the suggested "walk next door 
with my laptop test."  

Kara, thanks for clearing up the AP setup/configuration for me ... I was 
obviously a little confused on how this stuff works.
