name server problems...

following the directions in o'reilly's dns and bind boot i have a name
server running

periodically there are some sites that i cannot resolve and i have no idea
why.  i try to keep my hints file up to date (about every 2 weeks or so)
using dig @a.root-servers.net . ns > db.cache

most url's resolve just fine, but some, like www.slashdot.org and www.aa.com
go down for a couple of days for me.  if i dig @ someone elses name server
these sites resolve just fine the vast majority of the time (and if i browse
to there ip address they are there)

it makes no sense to me whatsoever :\

is there a way to set bind so that if it cannot resolve via normal means
that it will just ask another name server?
