OT: on-line buying/credit card fraud
Hey everyone,
Just a note, this month our credit card had over $1200 in charges that we
didn't make. The three "chargees" were ifriends.com, pay2click.com, and
the .ws domain people. Update! I just called, and 3 new charges (right
before I cancelled the card) came up for delta3.com. Interesting, as
delta3 and pay2click are both loading as UK companies with identical
websites (and have pop-ups for eachother). So, someone must be selling
credit card numbers to people in the UK?
So, just a friendly reminder (as I spent last night ordering on-line xmas
gifts). Watch your statements. Using only one card for on-line purchases
is best. It may even be a good idea to check your balances weekly
(there's a spiffy automated 800# on the back of your card(s). There were
15 duplicate charges on my bill!
And of course, watch for the glowing locks, and doing transactions over
secure connections. Tighten down your browsers (it's okay to run
javascript, but do yourself a favor and configure your browser to ask
first). If you can, check out netcraft or something and see what the site
you're going to buy from's server runs. (Old IIS? go somewhere else!)
Happy holiday shopping. For this being the first problem in the 8 years
I've had the card (Citibank Visa), and in the 6 years I've used it to
order on-line, I'm still pretty happy. Though in awe at what some stupid
people will go through to get stuff on-line!
