kcontrol errors

I just recompiled KDE, and am having a problem.  Has anyone seen this
error before?:

koree@linux:~ > kcontrol --nocrashhandler
kcontrol: Found basegroup = Settings/
ERROR: KUniqueApplication: DCOP communication error!

For some reason, I cannot start kcontrol.  However, everything else seems
to work okay.  If anyone has any ideas, let me know!
