lilo, the kernel and 128M ram

Is there another way besides LILO to get the kernel to recognize over 128MB
of ram. I cannot put the "mem=128M" in my lilo.conf because it says that
there is a syntax error. I can though at boot up type linux(label) and then
mem=128M and that works. I am using the 2.2.16 kernel and lilo ver 21.4-3.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
